Refreshed VARTA range unveiled at Automechanika
VARTA Automotive launched an updated battery product portfolio at September’s Automechanika 2024 exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, with support from parent company Clarios.
“The new lineup is intended to help simplify the battery selection process and expand product offerings for growing market segments,” the company explained.
The new VARTA product portfolio is organised by technology, which is said to make it easier for IAM partners to navigate the growing complexity of vehicle types.
Each technology within the portfolio is now identified by a distinct label colour across all applications: SLI batteries (traditional flooded batteries; starter, lights, ignition) are colour-coded blue; EFB batteries (enhanced flooded battery) silver; and AGM batteries (absorbent glass mat) feature a gold label.
“The new portfolio is a customer-focused solution that simplifies choices and saves valuable workshop time,” said Clarios.
For the heavy-duty segment, the merger of the ProMotive Super Heavy Duty and ProMotive Heavy-Duty lines, along with the introduction of new EFB A-type and AGM B-type products, is a strategic move to simplify the product offering, says Clarios, while enhancing its relevance to today’s trucking industry.
“As trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles increasingly rely on sophisticated low-voltage systems, the demand for reliable power solutions has never been greater,” said the company.
“VARTA’s AGM technology, which is now a cornerstone of the heavy-duty portfolio, is specifically designed to meet these demands.
“AGM batteries not only ensure that critical systems such as lights, brakes, and steering remain operational, even when the high-voltage system is down, but they also significantly reduce idling time – by up to 73 per cent according to TÜV Nord – leading to considerable savings in fuel costs and reductions in CO2 emissions.
“This makes VARTA AGM batteries an essential component for any fleet looking to improve efficiency and sustainability.”
Meanwhile, new EFB H9 and AGM H3 batteries will better support start-stop, hybrid and electric vehicles, says Clarios.
“As the automotive industry rapidly evolves, new start-stop, hybrid and EV vehicles are presenting increased demands on their low voltage networks and batteries. To better serve these new vehicles VARTA will launch new EFB H9 and AGM H3 batteries. These new products deliver superior performance in demanding conditions, to help ensure new vehicles operate efficiently and reliably.”
A recent €200 million investment by Clarios will reportedly increase AGM battery production in EMEA by 50 per cent by 2026.
“This effort will ensure workshops and consumers have access to the advanced batteries their start-stop, hybrid and EV vehicles demand,” said the firm.
