Osram: lighting the way this winter
Vehicle lighting specialist Osram has issued a reminder to commercial vehicle workshops to focus on bulb sales this winter.
With more than 110 years’ experience in the automotive sector, the company says that choosing and fitting original equipment (OE) quality bulbs will help ensure driver safety on the road.
“It’s a focus every year as the clocks go back, and for CV drivers it should be no different, to ensure that drivers have the best light for the darker nights ahead and the long haul,” said Osram.
“Naturally drivers will notice if their bulbs are performing poorly, as they use them more over the darker winter months, but CV workshops should be actively encouraging drivers and fleet operators to consider their bulbs while they’re still working before they potentially blow.
“It’s a fact that the filament of any halogen headlight bulb deteriorates with use, time and exposure to the elements. At the end of a typical service, headlights produce less light, reducing the driver’s night vision.
“Osram tests have shown that a standard halogen bulb loses 30 percent of brightness after 500 hours of use – so it’s important to be proactive, especially when running large fleets of vehicles.”
The company offers an extensive range of bulbs to suit 24V fleets, including Truckstar Pro, which it says is the brightest halogen and auxiliary truck bulb range.
“With up to 2.5 times longer life and up to 120 per cent more light than standard bulbs, these 24V upgrade bulbs are the ideal choice for professional drivers, reducing downtime and fleet costs.
