Vehicle tracking specialist Teletrac Navman has outlined some of the potential compliance benefits that can be enjoyed as a result of employing fleet management solutions.

The company cites a recent survey by Teletrac Navman (TS24) showing that, over the last year, 29 per cent of businesses said compliance was the biggest challenge to their business.

33 per cent of these fleets said that they were managing compliance with their telematics solution and 27 per cent of businesses were looking to invest in technology to help with the regulation of compliance within their business.

“Digital compliance takes tedious paperwork out of the equation,” said Barney Goffer, UK product manager at Teletrac Navman.

“Fleet managers can reliably schedule services such as MOTs, vehicle inspections, risk assessments, and routine maintenance, allowing their fleet to remain compliant through platforms such as Teletrac Navman’s TN360 and its customisable digital checklists for pre-trip inspections.

“This part of TN360 enables fleet managers to build out vehicle inspection checklists that replace paper-based processes and record the results instantly; any failures from the checklist can be configured to send SMS, email, and in-platform notifications, to ensure any issues are resolved promptly.”

Moreover, the introduction of additional digital compliance tools such as smart tachographs has many benefits, says Barney; they record data correctly and remove the need for manually logging driving and rest hours.

“This helps to create working spaces free from the ability to overwork and fatigue drivers given the hours are now digitally logged for external auditing.”

Teletrac Navman’s TN360 platform also provides compliance tools that help drivers stay in line with the law through the in-vehicle devices such as smart dash cams that are connected to TN360’s platform, he adds. Through its AI powered software it is able to track and find anomalies in data that have influence on a driver’s level of compliance, including in-cab safety, vehicle maintenance and unsafe driving.

“Smart compliance solutions are particularly beneficial to fleets operating in London, with the expansion of the ULEZ zones and changes to DVS,” he added.

“Fleet management solutions can log travel through clean air zones for more efficient payment, camera monitoring systems can give the driver visibility over their blind spot, covering the side.

“Smart solutions which send real-time alerts can make a big difference as well, including close proximity sensors flagging if a vulnerable road user comes in close proximity to the vehicle, and audible warning systems alerting other road users of the vehicle turning.”

He concluded: “Digital compliance platforms and tools such as TN360 provide fleet managers and drivers with a safe and reliable tool to stay on top of ever-changing legal requirements and regulations. It also showcases a commitment to better and safer fleet management.”
