Volkswagen extends commercial EV range

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) is expanding its line-up of battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, with a range of new models joining its lineup in 2025 to help facilitate the EV transition.

VWCV cites a recent study it conducted of 1,000 UK van drivers, which found that over two-thirds of respondents (68 per cent) now feel confident that electric vehicles would suit their day-to-day business needs – be that intercity jobs, travelling between sites, or last-mile deliveries.

One such company on this journey is Wates Property Services, which was looking to replace its older diesel vans with all-electric alternatives in a move to reduce its carbon footprint, without compromising on practicality.

“The team opted for 30 ID. Buzz Cargo vans, which have helped to keep running costs to a minimum while delivering comfort and flexibility as a reliable, all-electric workhorse,” said VWCV.

“The ID. Buzz Cargo is Volkswagen’s first factory-built EV. Now available with a choice of two battery sizes – 79kWh which delivers up to 276 miles all-electric range; and the new entry-level 59kWh ID. Buzz Cargo for up to 200 miles – the ID. Buzz Cargo provides an overall cargo volume of up to 3.9m3 and maximum payload of up to 707kg, combining practicality with iconic style.”

Having recently celebrated its 75th anniversary – making it the commercial vehicle with the longest production run in Europe to date – the seventh generation of Volkswagen’s Transporter has also recently launched with a fully-electric powertrain for the first time, with a plug-in hybrid variant to follow.

“Available in three highly-specified trims and a choice of wheelbase, the all-electric Transporter panel van is the versatile workhorse it’s always been, with up to 6.8m3 load volume and a payload of up to 1,092kg,” said the manufacturer.

To ease buyers into EV ownership, VWCV offers comprehensive service and fleet management support through the brand’s nationwide Van Centre network.

This includes a range of partnerships to alleviate concerns about making the switch, such as the Charge Anytime 2,000 Free Miles Offer, in partnership with Ovo.

“This enables new and existing Volkswagen customers who have a new fully-electric Company Car to take advantage of up to 2,000 free miles of electric driving, when paired with the ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on,” said VWCV.

“To minimise any initial range or charging anxiety, this add-on also enables customers to charge their vehicles for just 7p/kWh at home, day or night.”
