TDi: boosting transport compliance with tacho analysis

As part of its portfolio of software packages, TDi Software has been providing tachograph analysis to HGV and PSV operators for over 30 years, helping operators navigate the ever-evolving legislation and compliance requirements.

TDi’s disc-check can provide deeper insights into tachograph data, the company says, to assist with improving driver behaviour and boosting efficiency and vehicle utilisation.

“Transport managers often need data quickly to keep up with the fast pace of running a transport operation,” TDi explained.

“The disc-check dashboard uses colour-coded charts, which allow operators to take a quick glance at their data and tell them exactly what needs urgent attention and where improvement is needed.

“Managing working time and drivers’ hours is a key part of transport compliance, and disc-check takes the stress out of this task, by automatically analysing tachograph data to provide working time to date and drivers’ hours.”

In addition, adding other work and holidays for Working Time Directive purposes couldn’t be simpler, says the company, with the handy driver calendars included in disc-check. The system can also be used to improve compliance and reduce infringement rates across a fleet.

“Infringement reports can be scheduled to arrive in your inbox every week so you always stay one step ahead. Driver debrief can take infringement management one step further by showing which drivers are consistently getting infringements, and if repeat infringements are occurring regularly.

“It’ll also reveal whose infringement rates are the best and worst within your fleet and give you action on how to improve your infringement rates and avoid further potential infringements and fines.”

With a wealth of reports that can be scheduled for exactly when users need them,  tachograph data can help identify changes in driver behaviour and performance, which could be linked to fatigue, stress or other compliance issues, and allow transport managers to take necessary action.

Disc-check can also help with vehicle utilisation by analysing vehicle data from the tachograph, says TDi, enabling users to quickly see when calibrations are due and view in-depth information that could help improve vehicle efficiency and save costs.

“As transport operators know, driver data must be downloaded every 28 days and vehicle data must be downloaded every 90 days,” said TDi.

“But by downloading your tachograph data more frequently, transport managers will be able to spot problematic driver behaviour before it becomes a bigger problem. This can be made easier with remote tachograph downloading which sends driver and vehicle data automatically to disc-check whilst vehicles are on the road.

“Operators also have access to live driving data with a remote downloading device so that driving time can be closely monitored and jobs can be allocated accordingly to ensure drivers remain compliant.”

Earned Recognition is an effective means of proving to DVSA that transport operations are running to the highest standards and remaining compliant, says TDi. Disc-check’s approved Earned Recognition module can measure performance against KPIs set out by DVSA, and show which areas have room for improvement at just a glance.

Managing director Hannah Bloomer-Hague added: “Our aim is always focused on the customer/user experience – giving our users a simple yet effective compliance solution that

gets the job done without any faff. Disc-check, along with the disc-check driver app –  combined with remote tachograph downloading – delivers the information they need to take swift action, which enables everyone to maximise their time.”

As well as tachograph analysis and remote downloading solutions, TDi software also offers walk-around checks and maintenance planning through vehicle-check and automated licence verifications with licence-check.
