Peter Simson of Tyron Runflat

The inventor of Tyron Runflat, the tyre protection system, has issued advice for commercial vehicle users on the importance for safety of maintaining tyre health.

“As the winter months draw near, preparation for handling icy roads and foggy weather conditions comes to the fore,” said Peter Simson, director at Tyron Runflat.

“Frosty weather means it is more important than ever that commercial vehicle users remain vigilant with their road safety, a key element of which is tyre safety. From tread depth and tyre pressure to the overall condition of tyres, uneven wear patterns and wheel security, it is paramount that commercial vehicle users remain vigilant and check their tyres.”

Peter highlights key risks for HGVs including low tyre pressure, poor alignment, sidewall damage and tyre degradation, all of which can create life-threating scenarios on the road.

“To further exacerbate these challenges, due to the substantial weight and size of HGVs, they require longer stopping distances, which can be potentially hazardous to other road users,” he added.

“These challenges are particularly prevalent in the winter months.

“Recognising the challenges for commercial vehicle users, when faced with treacherous roads and heavy cargo, our team of specialists created our product which keeps a vehicle moving to a place of safety after a puncture or blowout.

“Our Multiband ensures that if a tyre experiences a blowout, the tyre is locked onto the wheel which helps the driver remain in control, keeping themselves and other road users safe. Our bands are also tested to 250km/h to ensure they provide a reliable and durable solution.

“Fitted into the well of the wheel, the Multiband locks the tyre to the wheel, ensuring the tyre remains between the wheel rim and the road surface. There remains a strong link between road traffic accidents and tyres, for both commercial and civilian vehicles, but we’re sure these alarming figures would be reduced if road users went the extra step to ensure their safety.”

Peter concluded: “Our Tyron Multiband really can be the difference between life and death, which we believe makes it a necessity. Poor road conditions, exacerbated by problems such as potholes and increased volume of traffic on major roads, remain an ongoing challenge for all road users which means it’s down to the vehicle users to take the necessary precautions.

“From roadworks to debris on the roads, there are a number of risks for users but with proper tyre checks and the use of the Multiband, catastrophic outcomes can be avoided and the chance of dangerous situations can be reduced. We’re on a mission to share our product with road-reliant industries, such as HGV transport and logistics operators, to ensure goods reach their destination on time and drivers can remain safe.”
