Gasrec opens Hams Hall biomethane fuelling site
Fuel provider Gasrec has officially opened its second large-scale, open-access biomethane refuelling facility at Hams Hall, near the M6 and M42 in Warwickshire.
The site has already been serving gas-powered trucks run by fleets including DHL, Nestlé, Arla Foods and Nicholls Transport, and throughput is expected to steadily increase over the coming months.
The Hams Hall site currently provides the capacity to refuel up to 300 trucks on Bio-LNG each day, says Gasrec, but this is expected to increase to 1,000 trucks daily over the next few years.
James Westcott, chief commercial officer of Gasrec, said: “Hams Hall is a milestone for the industry and for operators who want to cut emissions without compromising reliability. We are seeing record levels of demand for biomethane from fleets, and this new facility provides the scale and resilience they need.”
Hams Hall is the first of a series of new public biomethane stations being rolled out by Gasrec across the country,
with further sites expected to be opened in Warrington, Avonmouth, and other locations yet to be announced, in the next 18 months.
The new sites will complement the existing flagship site at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT), as well as numerous other accessible Bio-LNG facilities operated by the company across the UK. Gasrec says it is also assessing opportunities to develop new Bio-CNG offerings in line with local demand.
Overall the company operates 18 refuelling stations, a mix of Bio-LNG and Bio-CNG sites, serving large fleet customers such as Asda, B&Q, DHL, Ocado and Tesco, as well as small and medium-sized operators.
“Our network is expanding at pace,” added Westcott.
“With Hams Hall now open, we’re not only easing pressure on existing sites but also laying the foundations for a national refuelling infrastructure that can support operators of every size in moving to cleaner, greener fuels.”
