Stertil-Koni aids lifting at Stagecoach South Wales

Bus operator Stagecoach South Wales has installed two Stertil-Koni Heavy Duty 4-Post Lifts at its new Taff’s Well depot, in an investment the lifting specialist says will provide engineers with superior access, safety, and efficiency when maintaining and inspecting vehicles.

The new ST4175 electro-hydraulic 4-Post Vehicle Lifts join a set of Stertil-Koni Wireless Mobile Column Lifts already at the depot, creating a flexible workshop setup that supports both quick drive-on inspections and lifting solutions that adapt to the needs of different vehicles and maintenance tasks.

The 4-Post Lifts were also chosen because they eliminate the need for permanent vehicle pits, helping Stagecoach save on construction work and avoid disruption to the new facility.

Each ST4175 lift offers a lifting capacity of 17.5 tonnes and a platform length of 9 metres, making them ideal for a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles. The surface-mounted lifts feature Stertil-Koni’s crossbeam-free construction, providing engineers with unobstructed access along the entire length of the vehicle.

The low drive-on height simplifies positioning for low-clearance vehicles, while the extra-long approach ramps ensure that the front overhang of the buses do not ground on the approach to the platforms. For added flexibility, both platforms can be easily adjusted to accommodate vehicles with narrower axle widths.

Engineers benefit from smooth, precise lifting cycles, says Stertil-Koni, thanks to an electronically controlled hydraulic system that delivers consistent performance even under uneven loads.

Safety is built in through a patented mechanical locking system, the firm adds, which operates independently of the hydraulic system and engages automatically by gravity, offering maximum reliability and peace of mind.

Every lift is operated using Stertil-Koni’s eBright Smart Control System, featuring a full-colour touchscreen said to ensure intuitive and efficient operation, helping engineers focus on the job rather than the controls.

John Edmunds, engineering director for Stagecoach, said: “The new depot is the first of its kind in South Wales to boast two of the Stertil-Koni four post ramps which gives our engineering team better accessibility to work underneath our fleet.”

Simon Laffoley, national accounts manager at Stertil-Koni UK, added: “We’re proud to support Stagecoach South Wales with lifts that enhance both productivity and safety.

“The 4-Post Lifts are ideal for quick drive-on inspections, and offer many important safety features, ensuring vehicles can get back on the road quickly and with complete confidence.”
