Tackling LCV tyre maintenance with Davanti

Davanti Tyres has offered advice for light commercial vehicle (LCV) fleet operators on the topics of tyre monitoring and selection.

“For businesses reliant on the smooth running of LCVs, choosing the right van tyres is crucial – not just for fleet managers, but for the drivers themselves,” said the company.

“As well as thinking about which tyre is most suitable, it is also important that tyres are well maintained, as they directly affect safety, efficiency, operating costs, and the overall reliability of daily operations.”

Even with the most suitable tyre fitted, ahead of a busy month of driving, Davanti Tyres recommends checking tyre pressure either using an at-home digital tyre inflator, or alternatively, most petrol stations offer the service for a small fee.

“Low tyre pressure negatively affects handling, increases braking distance, and raises the risk of tyre blowouts,” warned the firm.

It also recommends monitoring tyres’ tread and general wear and tear.

“Tyre tread improves grip, the vehicle’s handling, and safety. [In winter] when the weather can become more challenging and road surfaces can become more uneven, drivers need to be able to rely on their tyres to maintain the vehicle’s stability on the road.

“A quick tread depth test to share with customers is the 20p test – a simple and easy way of checking tyre tread. Simply take a 20p coin and insert it into the tread grooves on the tyre. If you can’t see the outer band on the coin, tyre tread is above the legal limit.

“Also, if any other visible perforation – cuts, bumps, bulges – are noted, it’s important to visit a tyre professional to ensure the tyres are safe.”

It’s important to recognise that choosing the right tyres for LCVs can not only boost productivity but also reduce downtime and costs, says the company.

Davanti’s Vantoura 4-Seasons was the brand’s original dedicated on-road, all-season product. The brand spent years developing the ultimate all-season van tyre – from the icy wilds of the Arctic Circle at Test World in Finland to the heat of Davanti’s European Development Centre at Applus IDIADA.

“Offering the best of both summer and winter tyres, it is a versatile, popular and safe choice for LCV users, engineered to offer exceptional levels of all-season performance,” said Davanti.

Key design features of the Vantoura 4-Seasons highlighted by the firm include solid shoulder blocks that deliver a stable drive and endurance, even under heavy load, whilst also making the tyre resistant to damage. Three deep longitudinal grooves cut through standing water, providing the driver with safe and dependable handling on wet surfaces and resistance to aquaplaning. An array of sawtooth sipes cut through the main block sections and are engineered to actively bite into icy surfaces to help ensure traction.

A more recent addition to the Davanti commercial tyre lineup is the Vantoura DX450.

“The Vantoura DX450 is a highly durable and efficiency-led van tyre for LCVs with exceptional mileage capabilities, designed to keep drivers moving in wet and dry conditions.

“With its specially-designed compound ensuring wear resistance to enhance mileage capabilities, even when carrying heavier loads, Vantoura DX450 provides a balanced performance in all loading scenarios.”

Highlighted features include increased tread depth compared to the previous generation tyre, strengthened sidewalls to protect against damage, and an optimised tread pattern for even wear. Solid shoulder blocks and a strong central rib design are said to deliver a stable drive, while the heavy-duty shoulder construction ensures responsiveness even under heavy loads and on challenging surfaces.
