Britannia Smart Wash boosts fleet cleaning efficiency

Commercial vehicle cleaning specialist Britannia Wash Systems has unveiled its Smart Wash control platform, which it says is set to redefine performance, sustainability, and data-driven management across its vehicle wash portfolio.

“Designed for modern bus and coach operators, Smart Wash introduces intelligent automation, real-time monitoring, and advanced resource management – helping fleets improve operational efficiency while helping them meet their ESG goals,” said Britannia.

“At the core of the system is a powerful data-led approach. Operators can remotely monitor wash performance from anywhere in the world, with access to automated reporting, real-time diagnostics, and AI-enhanced service alerts.

“This enables proactive maintenance, reducing unplanned downtime and extending equipment lifespan, while ensuring fleets remain consistently clean and operational.”

Smart Wash also plays a critical role in reducing environmental impact, says the company.

“Fully integrated with Britannia’s advanced water reclaim technology, the system enables operators to recycle 100 per cent of water captured within the wash cycle through multi-stage filtration and settlement processes.

“Intelligent control of maintenance cycles further enhances efficiency, reducing water loss by up to two-thirds compared to traditional timed routines by ensuring maintenance is only carried out when required.”

Chemical usage is similarly optimised through automated dosing and application controls. By precisely adjusting detergent levels based on vehicle type, contamination, and local water conditions, Smart Wash is said to eliminate overuse, minimise environmental risk, and lower operating costs, while maintaining consistent, high-quality cleaning results.

“In addition to resource efficiency, the system captures and reports detailed wash data, allowing operators to track performance and produce accurate KPIs for internal benchmarking and local authority reporting – turning the wash process into a measurable business asset,” said Britannia.

“Furthermore…. Britannia Wash Systems mitigate Legionnaires’ disease risks in commercial vehicle washes by designing systems that manage water temperatures, prevent stagnation, and treat reclaimed water. Britannia recognises that proper maintenance, including regular disinfection, controlling spray, and managing aerosols, is crucial to comply with health regulations, as bacteria thrive in warm, stagnant water.”

Dave Barker, managing director, commented: “In today’s industry, access to accurate, actionable data is essential. Smart Wash gives operators the tools to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and meet increasingly demanding environmental targets.

“By combining intelligent monitoring with advanced water and chemical management, we’re enabling our customers to run cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable operations.”

As part of the wider Smith Bros & Webb group, Britannia highlights its manufacturing expertise spanning over 70 years, and says it continues to prioritise durability and longevity. Many of its wash systems remain in daily use well into their third decade, and all are compatible with Smart Wash upgrades.

“A comprehensive refurbishment programme further supports operators in extending equipment life – offering a sustainable alternative to full replacement while reducing waste and maximising return on investment,” said the company.

“Committed to continuous innovation, Britannia prides itself on developing intelligent solutions that not only enhance vehicle cleaning performance but actively support the transport sector’s transition to more sustainable operations.”
