Highway Coaches invests in Totalkare washbay lifts

Highway Coaches has upgraded its vehicle cleaning operation with a set of G9DC washbay mobile column lifts from workshop equipment specialist Totalkare.

The hydraulic columns offer an 8,000kg capacity per column and are built specifically for wet workshop conditions. The key difference from standard equipment is the galvanised finish, which is said to provide strong protection against rust and water ingress – a key advantage when lifts are being used daily in a washbay.

For 20 years, Highway Coaches has adapted to everything the coach industry has thrown at it: growing fleets, more complex vehicles, tighter safety requirements. Through it all, the business has stayed focused on one thing: keeping coaches on the road and passengers moving.

The challenge Highway Coaches faced is one that many transport businesses recognise. Maintenance needs to happen quickly and thoroughly, but washbay environments are tough on equipment. Water, humidity and heavy loads put standard workshop lifts under constant pressure. Breakdowns and reliability issues lead to delays, and delays cost money and reputation.

Jay Chauhan, area sales manager at Totalkare, says the choice of the right equipment for the right environment is something operators should not overlook.

“Reliability in maintenance is essential,” Chauhan commented.

“By choosing the galvanised G9DC column lifts, Highway Coaches is investing in a solution that tackles the dual challenge of heavy lifting and constant water exposure. This setup not only improves safety; it also prepares their workshop for growth, allowing them to scale up to 48 columns if their fleet needs to expand.”

That scalability is a real practical benefit, says Totalkare; as Highway Coaches grows, the system can grow with it without the need to replace infrastructure from scratch.

The results in the workshop have already been clear. The setup now allows under-chassis cleaning and full vehicle inspections to take place in the same area, cutting down on how much the team needs to move vehicles between different parts of the site. This saves time and reduces the need to send work outside the facility.

Parm Kular, a representative for Highway Coaches, says the upgrade has changed the way the team works.

“Maintaining that personal touch our customers expect means we must be dependable,” Kular explained.

“The new Totalkare lifts have made our maintenance routine easier. We can now carry out thorough under-vehicle tasks with full confidence in the equipment’s stability and protection against moisture. It has reduced our need for outside facilities and kept our coaches where they belong: on the road, serving our passengers.”

For transport operators managing ageing or growing fleets, the lesson from Highway Coaches is practical, says Totalkare: investing in purpose-built equipment for your specific working environment pays off quickly in reduced downtime and stronger daily operations.

The company supplies vehicle lifting and maintenance equipment to transport operators across the UK. More information on the G9DC washbay column lifts is available at the website.
