Thermo King unveils E-Volution for electric truck refrigeration

Temperature control specialist Thermo King has announced the commercial launch of the E‑Volution range, a high-capacity electric refrigeration solution for rigid trucks between 7.5 and 26 tonnes, which is now in serial production. With validated compatibility across leading battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) trucks, it is said to offer streamlined installation and reliable single- and multi-temperature performance, supporting a practical pathway to electrification.

“To strengthen the evidence base for fleets evaluating compliance pathways and long-term sustainability strategies, an independent, third-party Life Cycle Assessment has verified that E-Volution delivers up to a 45 per cent reduction in CO₂ emissions compared with diesel refrigeration units,” said Thermo King.

“Customer trial operations also show consistent and accurate temperature control, fast pulldown and recovery, and stable power consumption that supports predictable day-to-day routes.

“Thermo King E-Volution’s platform is built around an integrated electric architecture designed to simplify installation and reduce component complexity. The unit has one of the slimmest and lightest profiles in its class, allowing for reduced truck height design and minimising vehicle energy consumption. This supports lower running costs, maximised range and operational flexibility for both BEV and ICE fleets.”

E-Volution‘s variable speed system design allows for automatic as well as driver-operated noise control, says Thermo King, supporting early morning, late evening and residential area deliveries. Its zero direct emission operation and reduced acoustic footprint make it suitable for city centres, low noise zones and high restriction urban areas where compliance is essential for route access and business continuity.

The platform’s simplified electric design uses fewer moving parts, reducing wear, lowering maintenance requirements and contributing to higher uptime. Service routines are streamlined to support stable performance across multidrop and variable load operations,” the company continued.

E-Volution includes built-in telematics providing real-time performance data. Operators can access accurate temperature logging, system alarms and adjust parameters remotely, improving load protection and operational oversight. These insights support proactive maintenance planning, rapid response to events and more efficient fleet scheduling.

Thanks to its high voltage DC system design, E-volution can connect directly to the high-voltage DC ePTO (electrical Power Take-Off) of a wide range of validated BEVs. This feature, combined with the variable speed system design, ensures the most efficient use of electrical power avoiding energy loss from AC conversion and minimising the impact on battery range.”
