AdBlue storage tips from Smiths of the Forest of Dean
Smiths of the Forest of Dean offers a range of products to aid with the safe storage and precise dispensing of AdBlue.
“Although AdBlue isn’t classed as a hazardous substance, it is corrosive and a business expense you don’t want wasted all over the yard,” said the company.
“Whether you have one van or a fleet of lorries, we are a one-stop shop for your AdBlue containment needs.
“Bulk buying in 1000L IBCs can reduce costs per litre; having these on a flat or tipper stand gives height and a stable platform. When paired with our gravity-fed dispensing kits you have a perfect combo for controlled dispensing. Simply connect to the outlet on the IBC, turn on the tap and pull the trigger, and let gravity do its thing. This set up can be used to fill jerry cans or be pumped directly into AdBlue tanks, reducing waste.”
The company added: “Another thing that can drive up AdBlue costs is UV rays; when stored outside, the sun can break down AdBlue and make it less effective. The sensors in your vehicles then use more of it at a time. Black IBCs have a UV barrier protecting the contents from breaking down, alternatively UV covers can be used to go over white IBC tanks to give the same protection.
“Hand pumps are also a good idea if buying in barrels of AdBlue; these deliver a precise amount per pump making the dispensing from barrels easy to control. With a spout that allows a 20mm pipe to be attached, these can also be used directly into the tanks. These pumps screw directly into the barrel or vent of an IBC lid so are secure for use and easy to swap to another vessel.
“All of this and more is available from Smiths of the Forest of Dean.”
