GreenChem adds value with Effinox AdBlue solution
AdBlue specialist GreenChem has outlined the benefits of its Effinox product, which it says can help safeguard, clean and optimise Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.
Since the introduction of SCR-equipped vehicles, very little has changed to the AdBlue specification, says GreenChem, but operating conditions vary significantly between applications.
“In some cases, inefficient SCR operation can lead to mechanical issues, particularly in vehicles operating at lower exhaust temperatures or under low-duty cycles,” explained the company.
“These conditions can result in the build-up of biuret and cyanuric acid deposits within the SCR catalyst system, primarily because the AdBlue is unable to hydrolyse effectively at insufficient exhaust temperatures. All SCR-equipped vehicles can be susceptible to these issues when dosing occurs under cooler operating conditions.”
To address these challenges, GreenChem has developed Effinox, which it describes as an advanced AdBlue premium solution designed to clean, protect, and optimise SCR systems. Many operators also choose to use Effinox as part of a preventative maintenance and cleaning programme within mainstream haulage fleets, says the firm.
“Effinox actively cleans and protects the SCR system from crystal build-up caused by suboptimal operating conditions such as low exhaust temperatures, stop-start driving, excessive idling, and urban and intermittent traffic conditions,” said GreenChem.
“Over time, these deposits can clog injectors and catalysts, potentially leading to reduced performance, SCR faults, or even vehicle downtime. Effinox helps prevent these issues by keeping the SCR system cleaner and operating efficiently.”
The cleaning effect depends on the existing level of contamination within the SCR system, it adds.
“In some vehicles, improvements may be noticeable almost immediately, while heavily contaminated systems may require more time and continued use before significant results are seen.
“Effinox delivers a highly effective cleaning action while functioning exactly like standard AdBlue. Its advanced formulation provides additional cleaning and protective benefits without harming the vehicle or affecting compliance with manufacturer requirements.
“For best results, GreenChem recommends using Effinox with every AdBlue refill.
“Importantly, no pre-cleaning of the SCR system is required before use. Unlike some alternative products, Effinox works effectively even in systems that already show signs of contamination.”
Effinox is said to be suitable for all vehicles and machinery using a urea-based SCR emissions system, including trucks and buses.
“Crystal formation is a natural result of urea chemistry and can occur with any urea solution, not just AdBlue. However, Effinox is specifically formulated to reduce and control crystal formation more effectively than standard solutions.
“Unlike many competing products that rely on surfactants or surface tension modifiers, Effinox uses a patent-pending solvent-based technology. This advanced chemistry both prevents crystal formation and actively dissolves existing deposits, delivering superior long-term SCR protection.
“Because Effinox does not use surfactants, it is also completely non-foaming by design.”
One of the key advantages of Effinox highlighted by GreenChem is its ability to actively protect the SCR system.
“Its unique formulation not only helps prevent crystal formation but also dissolves existing urea deposits within dosing lines and injectors.
“This dual preventive and corrective action helps maintain injector efficiency, protect catalysts from obstruction, and ensure the SCR system continues to operate at peak performance.
“Effinox satisfies all ISO 22241-1 requirements governing the chemical and physical properties of conventional AdBlue. As a result, operators benefit from enhanced SCR protection and cleaning performance without compromising manufacturer warranties or technical specifications.”
