SG Haulage cuts collision risk by 50% with Geotab and H-Tec

Connected vehicle technology provider Geotab and H-Tec, an independent family-run fleet management supplier and authorised Geotab reseller, have reportedly helped transport operator SG Haulage reduce fleet collision risk by 50 per cent, improve fuel efficiency and strengthen driver protection through the deployment of an advanced integrated fleet management solution.

Operating a fleet of more than 40 vehicles across national and international routes, SG Haulage sought a single connected solution that could assist in improving fleet visibility, support compliance requirements and provide greater operational oversight across its growing operation.

The solution combines Geotab’s telematics platform with H-Tec’s fleet technology expertise, and is said to deliver seamless vehicle tracking, video telematics, remote tachograph downloading and safety monitoring capabilities across SG Haulage’s fleet.

Within six months, SG Haulage achieved a 50 per cent reduction in average fleet collision risk while also improving fuel economy by five per cent through enhanced visibility, route optimisation and driver performance insights.

Video telematics has also proven invaluable in helping protect drivers and reduce overall business risk, Geotab reports. During 2026 alone, SG Haulage experienced three separate incidents where third parties attempted to attribute fault to company drivers. In each case, camera footage was used to protect drivers from unwarranted claims, helping the company avoid an estimated £10,000 in potential insurance-related costs.

The additional visibility provided by connected camera technology has also contributed to improved insurance terms from the company’s brokers.

Ben Gaunt, managing director at SG Haulage Ltd, said: “We needed a reliable partner to supply and install connected camera systems alongside tachograph integration across our fleet. The Geotab and H-Tec teams took the time to fully understand our requirements and delivered a solution tailored to the needs of our operation.

“The cameras have been invaluable when proving driver innocence during an incident. Being able to defend ourselves more effectively in disputed accidents has not only protected our drivers but has also helped improve our insurance terms. Alongside that, we’ve seen an overall improvement in fuel consumption through better routing, easier fleet tracking and avoiding unnecessary off-route journeys.”

Prior to deploying the solution, SG Haulage relied on manual tachograph downloads and compliance processes. As the fleet expanded, these tasks became increasingly time-consuming and challenging to manage.

Today, vehicle and driver data is automatically downloaded and analysed, helping ensure compliance requirements are met while providing greater visibility across fleet operations. Driver behaviour monitoring has also enabled the business to identify coaching opportunities, aid in reducing harsh driving events and unnecessary idling, and recognise high-performing drivers through targeted incentive programmes.

Oliver Holt, senior sales manager EMEA at Geotab, said: “Fleet operators face growing pressure to improve safety, manage costs and protect drivers, all while maintaining efficient operations. Connected vehicle and video intelligence provide the visibility needed to make informed decisions and respond quickly when incidents occur.

“SG Haulage’s experience demonstrates how connected fleet technology can deliver measurable business outcomes, from reducing collision risk and improving fuel efficiency to supporting compliance and helping protect drivers when liability is disputed.”
