BYD showcases flagship heavy electric truck at IAA
BYD Commercial Vehicles is among the exhibitors at IAA Transportation 2026, where it is exhibiting a complete range of electric transport solutions, from urban distribution and municipal applications to regional and long-haul logistics.
Leading the display is the new BYD ETT 44, the company’s flagship heavy-duty electric 4×2 tractor.
At the heart of the ETT 44 is BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery technology and Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) integrated architecture, said to deliver high levels of efficiency, durability and safety. With a 651 kWh battery pack and a rated range of up to 600 kilometres (372 miles), the vehicle has been engineered to support intensive regional and long-haul operations while reducing charging interruptions, says BYD.
“Its twin-motor powertrain delivers a peak power of up to 750 kW (1,000 hp) under BYD’s Battery-Integrated Chassis (BIC) architecture – among the strongest outputs of any 4×2 electric tractor presented at IAA Transportation 2026, sustaining performance under full load, uphill and at speed,” said the manufacturer.
“Supporting BYD’s broader ecosystem strategy, the ETT 44 is among the first trucks in Europe prepared for Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology, enabling charging power of up to 1.5 MW. This allows the battery to recharge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in approximately 20 minutes, enabling operators to recover significant driving range during mandatory driver rest periods and further increase operational efficiency.”
“The ETT 44’s Blade Battery is backed by a 10-year / 1.2-million-kilometres (70 per cent SOH) warranty as standard,” it added.
“Combined with BYD’s Total Cost of Mobility (TCM) approach, which manages vehicle, energy consumption, electricity pricing, charging infrastructure, operations and financing as a single, optimised system, the ETT 44 is designed to give fleet operators confidence across the vehicle’s entire lifecycle.
“The ETT 44 has been awarded the maximum five-star rating under Euro NCAP’s Safer Trucks assessment programme, together with the CitySafe accreditation. Euro NCAP highlighted the truck’s strong direct vision, supported by its low cab mounting height, lower door vision window and eMirrors camera-monitoring system, as a standout feature for a long-haul vehicle.”
The vehicle also carries full technology readiness for L2+ advanced driver-assistance functionality, says BYD, which can be activated through hardware integration as market regulations and customer requirements evolve.
The ETT 44 headline launch is supported by a complete range of electric commercial vehicles, including T020 and T028 rigid trucks for regional distribution and special applications, vocational solutions for last mile delivery, sanitation and municipal applications, and specific vehicles such as yard tractors.
The BYD portfolio combines proprietary vehicle technologies, the Blade Battery innovation specific for heavy trucks, ultra-fast megawatt charging solutions (up to 1.5MW), modular energy storage systems, intelligent energy management and financial services.
“We have already put Flash Charging into practice in passenger vehicles,” said Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD.
“Today, we are bringing this technology to commercial vehicles starting with our trucks. With 1.5 megawatts of charging power, it can charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes – delivering up to 400 kilometres of range. Less time charging. More time on the road.”
