New UK distributor for Fuso trucks

Japanese truck brand Fuso is returning to the UK with the appointment of a dedicated distributor: Fuso Truck UK Ltd. The 3.5 – 8.55 tonne Fuso Canter trucks had previously been marketed though the Daimler Truck UK network alongside Mercedes-Benz trucks.

The relaunch reflects the return of former Daimler Truck subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso to Japanese ownership under the Archion Corporation banner. Newly-founded Archion also own former Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors, and Daimler and Toyota each own around 25 per cent of Archion.

Well-known industry figure Sid Sadique OBE is the owner and chairman of Fuso Truck UK. His other interests include electric truck repower specialist Electra Commercial Vehicles UK, and previous positions include founding north-west Daimler Truck dealer eStar, and managing directorships at Riverside Truck Rentals and Direct Tyre Management.

Sid Sadique said: “I am pleased and honoured to announce the creation of the Fuso Truck UK business. This company will be dedicated and concentrate only on the Mitsubishi product range, with a service focused dealer network. The times ahead will see us announce a new management team, new headquarters and a new squad, ready to deliver excellent products coupled with a lean and dedicated focus for our customer.”

Links between Fuso Truck UK and Daimler Truck remain strong. The Fuso UK organisation will still be headquartered at Daimler Truck’s UK facility Wentworth Park, Barnsley, although a new dealer network is to be appointed.

Daimler Truck UK managing director Richard Skidmore said: “We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Fuso Truck UK as the new general distributor for the UK. Throughout the transition process, both organisations have worked closely together to establish a strong operational framework that supports customers, Dealers and business partners. We are confident that Fuso Truck UK is well positioned to build on the brand’s established presence in the market and deliver continued growth in the years ahead.”
