Safer journeys with Fleetclear’s Driver Monitoring System
Vehicle safety solutions provider Fleetclear has warned of the devastating consequences that a moment of distraction or fatigue, even from the most experienced and careful driver, can have.
“Long days and repetitive routes can gradually erode concentration across construction, waste, highways, utilities and passenger transport fleets alike,” said the company.
“The hardest hazard to manage can be the one inside the cab.”
Fatigue and momentary distraction rarely come with a warning, says Fleetclear – but its Driver Monitoring System (DMS) can provide operators with greater visibility of what is happening behind the wheel.
Using advanced AI camera technology, the system helps to identify potential risks in real-time before they develop into incidents, supporting safer journeys for drivers, crew members and other road users.
“The system continuously monitors for behaviours such as driver fatigue, mobile phone use and seatbelt violations,” explained Fleetclear.
“When potentially unsafe behaviour is detected, immediate in-cab alerts prompt the driver to self-correct, helping to reinforce safer driving habits at the point of risk.
“Events are recorded alongside video footage and telematics data, providing fleet managers with a clearer picture of driver performance through the Fleetclear Connect platform. This gives operators greater visibility across their fleet, helping them identify trends, recognise good driving practices and address areas where additional support or training may be beneficial.”
Driver leaderboards can also be used to highlight positive driving attributes and encourage greater accountability, explains Fleetclear. The same data can support more eco-efficient driving, helping operators reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and associated emissions.
The system is also said to provide valuable insight into wider driving patterns, including harsh braking, speeding and cornering. When this information is combined with live traffic data and heatmaps highlighting areas of increased vulnerability or risk, operators can build a more comprehensive picture of where and when safety issues are occurring.
Chris Waller, chief technical officer at Fleetclear, said: “The benefits of this system for fleet operators are many. It provides greater visibility of driver behaviour, helping operators improve safety and performance, support compliance and identify areas where additional training may be beneficial.
“By combining real-time alerts with detailed data and video footage, operators can gain a much clearer understanding of what is happening on the road and take action to help prevent incidents.”
By helping to reduce risky driving behaviours, the DMS can also contribute to fewer accidents, less vehicle downtime and potentially lower maintenance and insurance costs, says Fleetclear.
The system is configurable to individual fleet requirements, with options including the ability to disable the driver-facing camera when a vehicle is being used outside of work purposes.
