Tiger delivers with moving deck refrigerated trailer
Tiger Trailers’ latest addition to its refrigerated range – a moving deck double deck trailer – has been available to order since Q4 2024 in fully-customisable single, dual, and multi-temperature configurations.
A number of major 3PLs and household names have now taken delivery of the new refrigerated moving deck trailers, and Tiger is currently able to cite a 20-week lead time for the units.
The upper deck is three-quarter length, with lifting duties taken care of by Tiger’s proven in-house, four-ram hydraulic system, said to be more robust and also easier to service and refurbish than other variants that are available, due to its simplicity.
A standard-length tri-axle with 1.9m upper and lower apertures, Tiger’s refrigerated moving double deck trailer has been designed and engineered for 44-pallet operations and to encapsulate all cage operation heights.
With the environment and sustainability in mind, Tiger has avoided positioning the lifting element of the deck under the chassis, which would otherwise increase aerodynamic drag and reduce fuel economy.
The product incorporates lightweight materials, and the ease of maintaining and repairing them enables operators to run them for longer, says Tiger, while the capacity also means that some end users can transport loads using fewer vehicle journeys.
The ‘safety first’ philosophy translates into various operating buttons, lights and load indicators to assist when loading and unloading, as well as smart features such as Wabco’s Premium EBS lead power detection for preventing bridge strikes.
‘Rice grain’ aluminium flooring provides class-leading grip, and there is also built-in protection from low tree branches. The time spent developing the product for market was significant, says the trailer specialist, including through deck-testing with offset loads.
A Carrier Vector HE19 fridge unit was fitted to the launch trailer exhibited at last year’s Cold Chain Hub, but Tiger can fit any brand and configuration, including hybrid-electric or fully solar-powered. Regenerative axles can also be specified, representing a more environmentally friendly drive solution by packing energy recovery capabilities into a more compact footprint.
Tiger has manufactured refrigerated fixed deck double deck trailers since 2020, and says that the introduction of a lifting deck was a natural evolution, targeting a clear gap identified in the market.
The Cheshire OEM’s reefer products are part-supplied by LeciTrailer, Spain’s largest refrigerated trailer and rigid bodywork manufacturer, which produces the side panels, floor and chassis, then ships them over to Tiger’s factory, where general assembly takes place.
Tiger adds all the electrics, hydraulic lifting and refrigeration systems, and carries out final pre-delivery inspection to ensure that every product built meets the high standard expected.
Customers can specify an overall height of 4,650mm, 4,880mm or 4,950mm, a twinned or super single tyre (dependent on the inner load height apertures required), and a choice of braking system, landing legs, spray suppression, floor material, livery and colours.
Tiger has worked closely in partnership with LeciTrailer since 2020, and has spearheaded the design and subsequent engineering of the partnership’s trailers to ensure they suit UK operations. Customers benefit from a KTL finish on chassis, a seven-year anti-corrosion warranty, a five-year structural warranty, and ATP certification being available on request.
Tiger offers a full service and maintenance package, and also highlights its in-house Tiger Finance division which can provide bespoke operating leases and hire purchase.
The firm is set to launch lightweight variants of its refrigerated trailers and rigid bodywork in the near future, and customers will soon be able to order longer semi-trailer (LST) iterations of the trailers.
