Straightset workshop installation drives productivity gains for Motus Group

Automotive services provider Motus Group has reported performance and productivity improvements following the successful delivery of a major HGV workshop installation in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, by equipment specialist Straightset.

Straightset completed the large-scale HGV workshop installation in March 2026 following a six-month project, working alongside multiple suppliers and contractors to create a purpose-built facility capable of supporting high-volume commercial vehicle servicing.

The company worked closely with Motus Group from the early design stages of the Bellshill project, helping to shape the workshop layout and infrastructure around efficient vehicle movement, safe and practical working conditions for technicians, specialist equipment requirements and future growth.

The installation included a 24-tonne capacity four-post HGV lift, commercial brake testing equipment, hydraulic check wear system and a comprehensive range of supporting workshop infrastructure.

Straightset additionally supplied and installed air distribution systems, lubrication systems, waste oil handling and management, water dispensing systems, oil storage tanks and compressed air generation equipment.

Motus Group has highlighted the oil pump dispensers as one element of the installation that has proved particularly valuable since opening.

The site also incorporates a dedicated Class VII MOT bay, with DVSA approval currently awaited.

All Straightset equipment was installed by its own engineers, providing consistency across the installation and ongoing support once the workshop became operational.

A Motus Group spokesperson said: “Since opening, we have seen improvements in productivity and overall performance, with no issues with the products supplied by Straightset.

“Our staff have provided positive feedback on the tooling and services, and the facilities have helped drive significant movement to our new premises. Straightset has proven itself to be a tried and tested supplier of high-quality workshop equipment.”

The new facility is delivering benefits around capacity, workflow, efficiency and reduced downtime, the equipment provider reports.

These early results provide an important real-world measure of the project, says Straightset, demonstrating how investment in workshop design and infrastructure can translate into operational benefits once a facility is in daily use.

Andrew Bates, managing director of Straightset, added: “When we completed Bellshill, we knew we had helped create an impressive facility, but the real test comes once a workshop is operational and being used every day. It’s fantastic to hear that the equipment is performing as intended and, importantly, that Motus is already seeing improvements in productivity and overall performance.

“For us, Bellshill demonstrates what can be achieved when workshop design, equipment and operational requirements are considered together from the outset. It’s also a strong example of Straightset’s capability in the commercial vehicle sector.”

The Bellshill development builds on an established relationship between Straightset and Motus Group. From early design and equipment specification through to installation and ongoing performance, the project demonstrates the importance of considering the workshop as a complete operational environment rather than simply a collection of individual pieces of equipment, says Straightset.
