The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has called for HGV drivers to share their real-world experience of onboard systems that detect nearby vulnerable road users (VRUs) with researchers from Loughborough University, who are conducting a study on behalf of the Department for Transport.
The survey, which can be accessed here, is open to drivers aged 18+ holding a C1 (including C1+E, C or C+E) licence. It intends to garner data on how professional drivers use and perceive VRU detection systems, including those developed and regulated domestically – specifically in London – and those regulated by the EU and fitted to all new trucks from 2025.
The survey closes on 25 September 2026.
