The Department for Transport has announced it has authorised an extension to the present relaxation of drivers’ hours regulations in England, Scotland and Wales.

This article was published on 17 April 2020. Please continue to check the DVSA website for updates.

The relaxation was originally due to end on 21 April, but will now continue until 23:59 on 31 May 2020, subject to future review. However, this extension does not apply to the previous relaxation on break requirements.

“Driver safety remains a priority for the government and drivers should not be expected to drive whilst tired,” said DfT.

“Employers remain responsible for the health and safety of their employees and other road users.”

Full details of the relaxations as they now stand are available on the gov.uk website.
