Remote enforcement office trial ‘makes good progress’

dvsa_signThere has been a positive response to the Remote Enforcement Office trial in the Western Traffic Area, according to VOSA successor organisation the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Remote enforcement was brought in as a way of dealing with compliance problems at otherwise legal operators rather than subjecting them to a formal visit from enforcement officers. DVSA instead contacts them by correspondence to ascertain what measures are being taken to avoid falling foul of the law again.

As part of the trial, REO contacted operators in the Western Traffic Area who had attracted a prohibition for an insecure load.

“The response showed the industry in a very good light,” a DVSA spokesman said.

One operator replied that it had provided extensive re-training to all staff, while another was to acquire a new vehicle that would be more suitable for the work it was carrying out.

DVSA said it would do more work via the REO in the coming months.
