WP_20160321_15_41_18_ProSpecialist training provider Vehicle Transporter Training Ltd (VTT) has recently launched three modules endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT), geared specifically towards operators of vehicle transporters.

The modules include new driver training, a two-day ‘train the trainer’ course, and a half-day higher level driver assessment called VTT Certified, covering safe loading, personal safety and driving assessment using a specific safe system of work.

Simon Scaife, business director at VTT, said: “These modules have been developed using my 26 years of industry experience, along with guidance from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and AJ Gallagher insurance.

“The finished modules provide the driver with safe loading and personal safety training to help prevent personal injury and reduce claims as well as reducing vehicle damage costs, and provides the operator with a signed safe system of work by the driver acknowledging his/her responsibilities.”

Simon reports a “great response” to the new modules from the vehicle logistics sector.

The company has also collaborated with the Road Haulage Association (RHA) to launch a Safe Loading Driver CPC course aimed at vehicle transporter drivers, which is delivered through a combination of classroom and practical instruction.

The course incorporates the VTT Certified practical module, using the driver’s specific transporter and load to cover driver safety and transporter operation. It also includes instruction on the morning walk-round, drivers’ hours and the Working Time Directive, and a driver legal compliance refresher.

“This innovative periodic module will deliver comprehensive Safe Loading training as well as driver legal compliance requirements to ensure all drivers have an up to date knowledge of operating standards and legal responsibilities,” added Scaife.

VTT also offers specialist acclimatisation services to operators receiving new transporters, to ensure their drivers are fully aware of the deck and system operations, thereby avoiding damage and improving operational reliability.

The company is currently looking for an experienced transporter driver to join the team as an instructor, as the business develops.

VTT customers include car and caravan logistics specialist Beamish Transport Ltd.

“We always believed that the VTT training programme was an excellent idea, but Simon has surpassed all our expectations,” said Beamish director Darrin Pickering.

“The extensive training, along with his Safe Systems of Work and his excellent approach with the delivery of the programme, has had a huge positive impact on our drivers.”
