ZF showcases Sachs clutch range
ZF Aftermarket offers a range of clutches for heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) under its Sachs brand.
The company says the range utilises the latest innovations in material development to ensure it not only meets but exceeds the very specific needs of vehicles operating under extreme conditions.
“The clutch ensures that the engine power is evenly transferred to the road, but in doing so is subject to a number of highly dynamic impacts,” said ZF Aftermarket.
“The system-related wear of the clutch facing results in a change to the power/travel ratio and needs to be taken into consideration when designing the clutch.
“A major product development under the Sachs brand has resulted in clutch facings which mean they are less susceptible to wear, even under the harsh conditions faced by this class of vehicle, making them a more cost effective and efficient market choice.
“Characterised by its excellent thermal stability and high-quality, these clutch disc facings offer significant protection to the flywheel friction surface, resulting in noticeable minimised wear.
“The material used is free of asbestos, lead, cadmium, mercury or chromium-VI – and no solvents are used in the production process. As is the case with all OE quality products from ZF Aftermarket, the clutch facing complies with all facing test specifications (BPS97).”
HCV repairs should be performed swiftly by professionals using the highest standard components, says ZF Aftermarket, to minimise vehicle downtime which is inefficient and can be expensive.
“Using cheaper, inferior quality parts is a false economy as the parts may have to be replaced sooner, resulting in the vehicle being off the road twice,” said the company.
“Clutch malfunctions such as poor separating behavior may also indicate a faulty release system. For the safest and fastest replacement, ZF Aftermarket Sachs offers workshops practical Sachs clutch kits.
“Containing all the parts necessary, these kits guarantee swift and faultless replacement. They consist of the pressure plate, the clutch disk and release bearing as well as a matching greasing pad for the lubrication of the hub splines.
“For fast and easy identification of parts, the ZF Part Finder app allows customers to search by reference number or vehicle manufacturer. Compatible with iOS and Android PCs, tablets and smartphones, this is available for free download.”
As part of the wider ‘Proven Performance ‘campaign for ZF Aftermarket’s Sachs brand, promotion of the HCV range has focused on truck racing – demonstrating how ZF’s motorsport expertise goes into clutches for trucks as well as passenger cars and emphasising the power and strength of the componentry, while communicating how Jochen Hahn, four times European truck racing champion, uses Sachs clutches in his vehicles.
“The HCV campaign uses the impressive heritage and ongoing achievements of Sachs to build a powerful series of simple yet strong messages such as: Sachs clutches prevent slippage and boost friction for the heaviest vehicles, even under 5,000NM torque on the racetrack, and they’ll do the same on the road,” said James O’Gara, senior HCV sales manager.
“These messages assert the brand’s strength, leaving the customer to draw only one conclusion – that Sachs is a brand with exceptional expertise, and this goes in to all of our products.”
