Workshop equipment supplier Tecalemit has outlined a variety of features and benefits of its inspection pit range.

“Tecalemit Garage Equipment provide a comprehensive range of vehicle lifting solutions for commercial vehicles, but there are times when a different method of dealing with vehicle inspection and repair is required,” said the company.

“A modern commercial vehicle inspection pit can provide a viable alternative for commercial vehicle workshops, and the modern pits from Tecalemit Garage Equipment provide a completely different environment to the brick and concrete pits that were frequently found in commercial vehicle workshops once upon a time.”

The modern prefabricated steel pits provide many advantages over alternative construction methods, says the company.

“They are specifically designed as load bearing structures that enable safe and efficient use of Tecalemit commercial vehicle pit jacks. With a pit jack featuring a typical axle load capacity of 20 tonnes through to special 50 tonne heavy duty units, the Tecalemit range of commercial vehicle pit jacks can be accommodated safely in order to provide an effective over-pit lifting capability.”

When installing a Tecalemit pre-fabricated inspection pit, the jacking beam rail will be built into the design of the pit and the pit jack runs on this dedicated rail, explains the firm.

“With the air operation of Tecalemit pneumatic pit jacks together with a range of lifting accessories, such as chassis crutches, differential case adaptors and spreader beams, the ease of the over-pit lifting operation is further improved,” the company continued.

“The installation of air supply to the inspection pit also serves to provide the facility to use oil extraction on the Tecalemit in-pit oil drainers to provide a safe method of handling contaminated waste oils.

“The modern vehicle pit can be designed and constructed to feature bespoke recess to store oil drainers and toolboxes in order to keep the working area safe and free from hazards.”

The steel pit tub provides an important watertight environment, adds Tecalemit, while a tough epoxy coated surface enables easy cleaning.

“This combines to create a durable, safe solution whilst creating a pleasant working environment. A range of pit lighting options further enhance the environment and the surface finish of the pits provides good light dispersion for the benefit of the technician.”

Where the pit is to be used to create a vehicle test capability, the pit tub can be fabricated to include purpose designed housings for the Tecalemit DE7353 pit play detector to enable the testing of commercial vehicle steering and suspension components.

“The Tecalemit DE7353 is approved for use in DVSA authorised testing facilities (ATF) which enables CV operators to undertake their own pre-MOT steering and suspension testing,” the company added.

“A Tecalemit DE9700 Roller Brake Tester, installed in conjunction with the pit creates the ultimate in CV testing capability which enables operators to test their vehicle to MOT standard as well as undertaking their own periodic brake safety and efficiency tests.”
