Inspection pit innovations from Premier Pits
Premier Pits, a provider of prefabricated inspection pits for fleet operators, dealerships, and workshops, has recently expanded its safety offerings with a new hinged pit cover designed to enhance the protection of workshop employees.
The patented Premier Hinged Cover is an air-operated fall restraint made up of 2.5m steel mesh panels which are controlled through pneumatic cylinders linked to a central control box. The cover not only safeguards against falls but also serves as a handrail for the pit’s stairs, aiding in safe entry and exit.
“As workshop safety becomes more paramount, pit covers are gaining popularity in UK workshops, and they are even legally required in some countries,” said the firm.
“While Premier Pits provides various safety options for the pit area, retrofitting covers can be cumbersome, requiring extensive groundwork for storage or a reduction in pit length, leading to decreased working space. The Premier Hinged Cover addresses these issues by offering a protective solution with minimal disruption and maximum working space retention.
“The Premier Hinged Cover can be added to new or existing pits, whether they are made of steel, concrete, or brick. Unlike other options, this cover doesn’t need a storage cassette, allowing pits of any length to be covered without significant space loss. This innovation provides a quick and efficient way to enhance employee safety within the workshop environment.”
Premier Pits offers an extensive range of inspection, authorised testing facility (ATF), and maintenance pits, accompanied by an array of safety equipment such as covers, barriers and pit bridges.
The company emphasises the importance of selecting a pit supplier that adheres to high manufacturing standards. Wash bay solutions, including under-chassis wash pits and ramps, are also part of the product range.
The company’s comprehensive approach involves providing guidance on pit selection, modifications, and necessary accessories.
“With skilled design engineers using advanced CAD design facilities, Premier Pits can support architects, structural engineers, and contractors in creating tailored pit solutions,” said the firm.
Although the company offers standard formats, customisation options cater to individual customer requirements, providing an array of combinations. Prospective customers can even use an online pit builder on the company’s website to specify desired features and inquire for further details.
A seamless installation process is ensured, Premier Pits says, thanks to the deployment of its own skilled teams of fitters to install the pits on-site. They also conduct a final check to guarantee everything is in order before the project is handed over to the client.
In addition to its pit solutions, Premier Pits acts as the UK distributor for BrakeMate – a service platform designed for heavy vehicle brake disc maintenance. This platform reduces manual lifting during maintenance and enhances efficiency by allowing a single user to complete the process, freeing up time for other tasks.
