Webfleet: tacho management has key role on road to fleet safety
As transport logistics continue to evolve amid growing complexity and regulation, fleet management solutions are proving essential in upholding safety, compliance and operational efficiency, according to Beverley Wise, Webfleet regional director for Bridgestone Mobility Solutions (pictured, right).
“As the industry grapples with challenges ranging from stricter safety standards to sustainability demands, technology is playing an increasingly significant role,” she observed.
“Innovations in tachograph management, for example, are helping fleet operators navigate these complexities with greater precision and are setting new benchmarks for operational excellence.
“Tachograph management lies at the heart of modern fleet compliance strategies. By automating the collection, analysis and storage of tachograph data, fleet operators can maintain their focus on their core business services while meeting safety and regulatory requirements.”
This approach has been further validated by the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) through its Earned Recognition scheme, says Beverley.
“Webfleet Tachograph Manager has now gained DVSA approval as part of this scheme, highlighting its effectiveness in supporting fleet operators’ compliance efforts.
“The DVSA’s Earned Recognition scheme is a voluntary programme designed to show that vehicle operators meet the highest standards for driver and vehicle safety. Achieving this recognition is a significant milestone, as it demonstrates that the tools used are not only reliable but that they also align with the stringent demands of the modern fleet industry.”
The importance of effective tachograph management has been underscored by the introduction of the latest Smart Tachograph Version Two (SMT2), she adds.
“Webfleet Tachograph Manager is fully compatible with SMT2, ensuring that operators can manage tachograph data accurately and efficiently. This compatibility facilitates compliance and helps prevent businesses from becoming weighed down by regulatory complexities.
“For fleet businesses participating in the earned recognition scheme, the opportunity to use Tachograph Manager to easily share driver hours KPI reports with the DVSA is a valuable asset.
“This transparency significantly reduces the likelihood of fleets being stopped for inspections, improving overall operational efficiency.
“In this way, advanced tachograph management systems can play a crucial role in enhancing road safety and compliance across the sector.”
Beverley concluded: “The approval by the DVSA for Webfleet Tachograph Manager reflects the growing recognition of how essential advanced tachograph management systems have become. As the landscape of fleet transport continues to evolve, staying ahead of regulatory requirements while maintaining efficient operations has become more important than ever.”
