Roadworthiness guide updated by DVSA
The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency has today published an updated version of its Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, which details the regulations, requirements and best practice approaches for commercial vehicle maintenance for operators in Great Britain.
The updated guide, which can be found here, includes additional advice in the following areas:
- safety inspections and repair facilities – your responsibility if you choose to outsource maintenance
- wheels and tyres – information about refitting road wheels
- parking brake performance – using an electronic brake performance management system (EBPMS)
- brake performance assessments – information on carrying out temperature checks with decelerometer tests
“From April 2025, there will be an expectation that every safety inspection will include a laden brake performance assessment,” DVSA added.
New sections in the Guide relating to this include: risk assessment when not carrying out a laden brake assessment; acceptable reasons for not carrying out a laden brake assessment; and laden brake testing and risk assessment examples.
