DVSA updates load security guidance
The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has updated its guidance for goods vehicle operators in England, Wales and Scotland on how to ensure cargo is secured and unloaded safely.
As well as the addition of further detail to the existing guidance, extra information has been included on making appropriate risk assessments on loads, and ensuring that loads are sheeted correctly where necessary.
Further amendments have been made, including to the introduction of the guidance to help clarify its standing and purpose and how it can assist in compliance with regulations. There are new sections on securing asbestos waste and precast concrete sections, as well as various minor changes following feedback from stakeholders.
“Please make sure you, your managers, transport managers and loading staff familiarise themselves with the new and updated information to make sure vehicles are loaded safely and appropriately,” said DVSA.
The updated load security guidance can be found at the gov.uk website, along with a record of specific sections that have been updated.
In order to reflect the changes to the guidance, DVSA has also updated its guidance on the categorisation of vehicle defects.
