Bowmonk’s diagnostic device range
Bowmonk offers a range of equipment to assist with vehicle diagnostics tasks, including the SensorCheck, a handheld EBS / ABS sensor and exciter ring tester, for use on trucks, trailers and buses.
“Conventional wisdom has it that problems with EBS / ABS systems fitted to trucks, trailers and buses are best diagnosed via the vehicle’s Electronic Control Unit (also known as the ECU),” said Bowmonk.
“However, since 80 per cent of all EBS / ABS problems are sensor related, by connecting to the sensor socket on each wheel (which is what the SensorCheck does) rather than the ECU you are, in effect, taking the quickest and most direct route by going straight to the heart of the problem.
“Lightweight and portable, the SensorCheck is supplied with a 1.6m high quality cable and a separate ‘crocodile clip’ universal adapter for those applications where the standard lead’s termination is not applicable. A short introductory printed manual and a single 9V PP3 battery are also included. The SensorCheck comes ready to use straight out of the box.
“Designed with ease of use in mind, the SensorCheck takes minutes to set-up and, once connected, undertakes a complete test cycle of the six most common causes of EBS / ABS faults, at the touch of a button, in just 15 seconds – a fraction of the time it would take to perform the same tests manually – and all without having to remove the road wheel. Tests start with the continuity of the sensor and sensor lead, the status of the air gap and the condition of the exciter ring.”
Also available is Trailercheck ‘Plus’, a trailer air and electrical system tester for workshop and mobile service vans.
The system is designed to enable the operator to test the complete trailer lighting system using the 24N & 24S power sockets, and to test the EBS warning light function on the trailer using the ISO 7638 socket.
“Connect the 24N & 24S sockets to the trailer and turn on the `Auto Light` test switch; the trailer lights will illuminate in a pre-set order for approximately 10 seconds each, allowing the operator time to check each light,” said Bowmonk.
Users can also connect an air supply from a compressor to enable testing of the braking system. The service brake can be tested manually or via the wired 15m remote control.
Bowmonk also offers a potentiometer tester, which can be used to check the potentiometer in five simple steps with the caliper installed or removed from the vehicle.
