Scania commences series production of Longline cab

Scania has launched a contender in the ‘oversize cab class’ with a factory offering of the Longline cab, previously only available as an aftermarket build, thanks to European Increased Vehicle Dimensions legislation. The cab incorporates Scania’s S-Series high roof with a crew-cab structure.

The Longline’s cab will be available in two length versions: 28 (280cm) and 31 (310cm); both with the high roof. Interior height exceeds two metres, providing standing room for most drivers.

Longline is offered as a flexible platform for further individual customisation rather than with a fully-specified and standardised interior. From behind the seats, options such as a standard bed with storage or shelving, or a more open layout can be supplied with the design focused on defined mounting points, enabling customers to create interiors to their specific requirements.

Many customers are expected to personalise their vehicles through custom paint jobs and interior solutions. To support this, Scania will offer premium paint options of all automotive colours available in collaboration with a Swedish custom painter to reduce overall lead times.

The cabs themselves are created by Laxå, an independent Swedish company that specialises in heavy-haulage and crew cab conversions for Scania, and mounted on line-built Scania chassis.

The first examples are expected to be delivered this autumn.

“This is a natural evolution of a concept that has long been appreciated by customers,” said Lars Gustafsson, head of trucks, Scania.

“With Longline, we combine heritage with modern industrialisation and offer a platform that can be tailored to individual needs.”

He added: “The cab is not only about space, but about creating a better working environment for drivers. This is increasingly important for our customers.”
