CTS: why AdBlue deserves the same management as diesel

Fuel management systems supplier Centre Tank Services (CTS) has emphasised the advantages of monitoring AdBlue supplies in a similar manner to diesel, in the context of recent volatility in the natural gas supply chain.

When it comes to monitoring, diesel gets the attention, says the company; most fleets track every fill, reconcile deliveries against invoices and authenticate drivers at the pump.

“AdBlue, sitting in the same depot, often gets none of those controls,” said CTS.

The company warns that this can represent a real financial exposure during times of tightened supply and higher prices.

“Conflict in the Middle East has disrupted natural gas supply chains that feed urea production, the key ingredient in AdBlue…

“AdBlue used to sit quietly alongside lubricants and washer fluid. Now it is exposed to the same volatility as diesel itself. Operators with thousands of litres in storage are watching the value of that stock move week by week.”

The Piusi B.Smart addresses exactly that, says CTS, and the risk of unauthorised dispensing.

The B.Smart is designed and manufactured by Italian manufacturer Piusi, and supplied and supported in the UK by official agent CTS through a nationwide distributor network.

“B.Smart is a cloud-based fluid management system that lets fleet managers monitor AdBlue and diesel use remotely and in real time, whether that is one pump on one site or unlimited dispensers across multiple sites,” said the firm.

“Drivers authenticate at the pump using a mobile app, dispensing data is sent to the cloud via Wi-Fi or mobile network, and managers see what was dispensed, by whom, when, and into which vehicle, all from a single online portal…

“B.Smart only releases fluid to authenticated drivers, removing the casual top-ups and unrecorded fills that quietly erode stock.”

Knowing exact consumption per vehicle enables fleet managers to see consumption patterns, spot anomalies, and reconcile delivery invoices with what actually went into the tanks, says CTS.

Unlike most cloud-based systems, B.Smart has no ongoing subscription or hosting fees. Fleets pay for the system and the driver app licences, then own it. In a market where every connected platform seems to come with a recurring bill, that is unusual.

“Two optional modules extend the system. The Tank Watchdog tracks stock levels, delivery records and inventory value in real time, useful when AdBlue is priced at a premium. The Fuel Economy module covers consumption, miles per gallon and driver activity, taking the system from dispensing into fleet performance.”
