FTA online training supports sector through Covid-19
Keith Gray, general manager of training at the Freight Transport Association, provides an overview of the online courses the organisation is making available
While the government has restricted use of classroom-based, face-to-face training under its Covid-19 social distancing rules, the need for logistics professionals to run their fleets safely, efficiently, and in line with government regulation remains the same.
To help logistics businesses keep their operations running as smoothly as possible during this difficult time, FTA launched a series of online training courses within weeks of lockdown commencing.
Delivered through interactive webinars, quizzes and e-learning resources, FTA’s online courses are guaranteed to keep delegates engaged. And, as furloughed staff can undertake training legally as long as they are not making money or providing services for their employer, it is the perfect time for this section of the workforce to get up to date with their training requirements.
E-DCPC training
To ensure drivers can continue to undertake essential compliance training throughout the Covid-19 outbreak, FTA launched an online version of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) course: the eDCPC.
Delivered as a seven-hour session, the course is approved by JAUPT (Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training) as a suitable remote-delivery alternative to classroom-based DCPC courses.
For transport managers, FTA launched e-TM CPC, an online version of the Transport Manager CPC course. e-TM CPC constitutes a ‘licence to practice’, and as such, the syllabus for the qualification is comprehensive.
The course offers a unique blended approach to learning, including case-study submissions, tutor support and peer discussion.
As a leading provider of this qualification, with pass rates far exceeding the national average, FTA has produced a learning experience that is ‘best-in-class’. FTAs awarding organisation, City & Guilds, will not provide exams for the summer series, which was scheduled for June. The next Transport Manager CPC case study exam is confirmed for 11 September 2020.
Finally, FTA has also launched an e-CPC Refresher course, providing CPC-qualified Transport Managers and logistics professionals with training on key operational areas within the syllabus.
E-OLAT training
FTA’s online Operator Licence Awareness Training Course (e-OLAT) provides operators with the latest information on transport legislation, giving them peace of mind that they are operating in compliance with the latest guidance from traffic commissioners.
The course is designed for individuals with the responsibility of supervising transport operations or those soon to be promoted into the role.
The course content has been rated as excellent or exceeding expectations by 86 per cent of delegates, and 100 per cent of the delegates said they would recommend this course to a colleague. With such high praise and places filling up fast, FTA has released additional training dates for the months ahead.
In addition to the above, delegates can access training online for General Security Awareness Training (GSAT); an introduction to dangerous goods by air, road and sea – overview for management; and shipping dangerous goods by sea.
With training remaining of critical importance to personal development and organisational resilience, FTA is pleased to be able to support businesses during this challenging time.
