Knorr-Bremse outlines trailer tech innovations
Vehicle technology specialist Knorr-Bremse has reported a recent increase in demand for its iLvl (Intelligent Levelling Control) system within trailer fleets which have a low weight-to-volume requirement, to allow maximum storage capacity within the design of the trailer.
iLvl operates via electronics and with the traditional pneumatic control system simplified for back up operation only, says the company, making it easier for vehicle builders to install, and offering the driver additional advantages such as the ability to pre-programme ramp heights for automated adjustments.
The system also allows for two separate button-operated controls to be present, one external and one internal. This allows for the trailer height to be adjusted as the weight is removed from the trailer. ‘Reset to ride height’ functionality is also incorporated to return the trailer to the desired height once a set driving speed is achieved.
It is additionally possible to link this system to the iTAP smartphone application which allows continuous monitoring and control of the trailer level settings along with key EBS functions and diagnostics.
Knorr-Bremse is also in the process of releasing its Ramp Docking system, which through a dual pair of rear sensors will detect either a dock or other hazards within the loading area.
This is a standalone system which can be installed as original equipment or retrofitted. When used with the Knorr-Bremse G2 EBS system it will automatically apply the trailer brakes to prevent collisions as well as sounding an audible alarm.
Additionally, reversing or load security cameras can be added, which also display via the iTAP applications, thereby providing additional safety when manoeuvring.
To support the growing complexity of products due to increased software levels and increase the level of support offered to trailer fleets, Knorr-Bremse is additionally launching a new Trailer Service Agent Network.
The main aim of this is to offer a country-wide network of fully trained and equipped service agents, both static and mobile, who are able to offer a rapid response to any issue with Knorr-Bremse trailer equipment.
This will include adjudicating on warranty claims to ensure the fastest service time, and addressing any standard repair issues.
The network will be supported by dedicated training, priority component supply, new product support and a dedicated technical support team to ensure rapid resolution of issues. This is currently being rolled out throughout the UK.
