Clutch Compressor solutions from Knorr-Bremse
Compressors from Knorr-Bremse are installed on all types of commercial vehicles, producing compressed air for braking and suspension systems.
In addition to the existing compressor range, Knorr-Bremse launched its first Clutch Compressor in OE application for MAN in 2010 – and since that time, Volvo, Renault, Scania and Iveco have all installed the Clutch Compressor from Knorr-Bremse. Replacement units are available for the independent aftermarket.
“Unlike compressors using conventional technology, clutch compressors avoid idle running phases,” explained the company.
“Instead, there are standby periods during which the engine output is physically separated from the compressor, thereby saving energy and reducing compressor wear.”
Knorr-Bremse Clutch Compressors are said to reduce a truck’s CO2 emissions by up to 2.5 tons per year, and diesel fuel consumption by up to 1,000 litres per year for a long haul vehicle. Further benefits include reduced oil carry-over and increased compressor lifetime.
“In order to ensure the highest quality and an optimal service, Knorr-Bremse has developed a specific service concept for the Clutch Compressor,” the company continued.
“The service orientated service kits combine all necessary components required for a certain service action including the latest technical improvements and revisions. When maintaining, repairing or replacing complex systems it is essential to use specialist repair tools to ensure to retain the original condition without any flaws.
“Without the use of professional equipment, crucial parts like gaskets or guides can be damaged and a substantial amount of extra time will be needed by the workshop.”
Knorr-Bremse has introduced a Clutch Compressor tool case, developed in cooperation with tool specialist Gedore Automotive, which it says offers an optimal combination of repair kits and special tools required for a safe, fast and cost-efficient service.
The specialist tools from Knorr-Bremse will support workshops with service tasks including dismounting the clutch, replacing the actuation piston, mounting the clutch and mounting the output shaft.
