Orafol reflects on conspicuity tape quality

Reflective materials provider Orafol has underlined the importance of ensuring vehicle conspicuity tape fitted to HGVs is fit for purpose.

The company highlights the status of its long-established Oralite VC 104+ range as a preferred choice for leading trailer OEMs as well as end users.

“It’s been more than 15 years since Regulation ECE 104 was first introduced in Europe, making it mandatory for trucks and trailers to have retroreflective marking tapes applied to the sides and the rear,” said Orafol.

“This was a large step in the right direction towards increased road safety, and… anyone who has driven on a European highway at night… will clearly recognise the importance of the marking tapes.”

Orafol pioneered the prismatic retroreflective technology used for the approved vehicle tapes, which enables their long-distance visibility.

Orafol’s business development manager for the vehicle market, Lars Thomsen, said: “HGVs are vehicles at work – constant work. All components must be of the highest quality to withstand the harsh conditions these vehicles can be subjected to, and it is not an option to remove a vehicle from service just because a reflective tape of inferior quality needs replacing.

”With Orafol’s tapes you can rest assured that they will continue working optimally. We offer up to 10 years’ durability with full confidence.”

Thomsen added that, while various approved tapes are available on the market, ”it is key to keep in mind what your requirements are for easy application, durability and ultimately how well you want your tape to work – and how safely you want the truck driver to work the roads. This is why you see so many trucks and trailers in the European roads fitted with tapes from Orafol.”
