Foreign trucks get more prohibitions

Prohibitions on foreign trucks, and tachograph and hours convictions for their drivers, outnumbered those imposed on British-registered LGVs during 2013-14.

Replying to a parliamentary question, Transport Minister Claire Perry reported that in 2013/14 a total of 39,006 foreign trucks were checked and 6,077 prohibited, compared to 38,972 British trucks checked and 5,070 prohibited.

Only fixed penalties and prosecutions were included in the statistics, since these refer specifically to drivers’ hours and tachograph record offences.

2,022 drivers’ hours and tachograph fixed penalty notices  were issued to British drivers compared to 4,675 issued to non-UK drivers.

There were a total of 4,050 court convictions for these offences, but the nationalities of the offenders were not recorded.
