Mobile Centre launches super-compact beacon
Lighting specialist Mobile Centre has recently introduced the MicroBright beacon to the UK and Europe, a product which is already established in the North American market.
The MicroBright beacon is constructed using a patented Boardfree manufacturing pro-cess which dispenses with the conventional circuit board design and allows the LED light to be fully encapsulated and over moulded. This solid-state construction is said to offer high levels of shock, water (IP67), impact and corrosion resistance, resulting in zero cost of ownership.
Another benefit of BoardFree construction is the substantial reduction of size compared to a standard or even a current so-called low-profile beacon, says Mobile Centre, with a height of 20mm and a diameter of 75mm. Tested and certified to ECE R65, it can be employed in on and off-road applications on any type of commercial vehicle.
Mobile Centre’s technical manager Tim Consolante said: “When we show the beacon to a customer they are all surprised about how small it is in real life, then we power it up and they cannot believe how bright it is.”
Modular mounting options available are bolt on, DIN mount, pole mount, magnetic mount and riser mount.
The MicroBright beacon is said to overcome the limitations and vulnerabilities of conventional beacons, allowing mounting locations such as the top of mirror arms or roofs where conventional beacons may have been broken by overhanging branches and other obstructions.
The small diameter and low weight offer the ability to recess into the corner of a vehicle body or mount on a bracket.
Electrical connection is via an integral waterproof connector to allow for retrofit or OEM installation. LED construction means an average power draw of just 0.33A at 24 Volts DC.
The MicroBright beacon is standard fitment on a number of John Deere machines and recently won a Deere Innovation award.
