Smart reversing with Dr Air-Brake
Highlighting the increased focus on HGV safety and ever more demanding standards in recent years, Dr Air-Brake can offer an automatic braking solution to help avoid collisions while reversing.
The company, which cites its compliance with changing frequency range requirements for automotive radar-based systems, includes the Reverse Smart auto brake and warning system among its product portfolio.
Reverse Smart continually monitors a pre-programmed danger zone taking static items (i.e. street furniture) into account, whilst also looking for obstacles that are already in the direct line of movement and also potentially coming into the line of movement.
The system warns the operator via its cab-mounted display and eventually applies the service brake automatically if required, thereby protecting the operator, the fleet owner and potentially saving lives and reducing injury.
This system can also be fitted for forward motion, allowing certain special vehicles to be protected in both directions, where the operator is perhaps concentrating on kerb line or crew and not always aware of more direct obstacles in their path.
Typical applications for the system include refuse (bin lorries), both on and off-road plant equipment, traffic management IPVs and tippers, but it is said to fit almost any HGV vehicle.
