Tackling indoor emissions with EHC filters

KC Business Services, which distributes EHC Technik exhaust filters in the UK, has highlighted the potential issues engine emissions can cause when vehicles and machines are used indoors or in confined spaces.

“An often-overlooked fact is that modern diesel vehicles emit more of the very small toxic exhaust particles,” said the company.

“This is due to more accurate combustion and pre-installed ceramic particulate filters that trap larger particles around PM 10 in size.

“The most dangerous particles are between PM 0.20 – PM 0.40 in size as they contain the absolute most carcinogenic toxins but also because they penetrate deeper and get stuck in our lung tissue.”

The company continued: “Diesel engine emissions include the following elements in varying proportions: carbon (soot); water (H2O); carbon monoxide (CO); carbon dioxide (CO2); nitrogen (N2); oxides of nitrogen (NOx); oxides of sulphur, e.g. sulphur dioxide (SO2); alcohols; aldehydes; ketones; various hydrocarbons (HC); and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

“These elements are reduced with modern technology, but this technology is generally only working correctly when the engine is at running temperature; with the engine cold the emissions are greater, this is where the use of temporary filters come into their own as they work from startup.”

“Thanks to the technology developed at EHC, we capture over 99 per cent of the hazardous particles all the way down to PM0.12. This makes it possible to work with large machines and vehicles even in an indoor environment.

“Filtration is available for all sizes of engine; these can either be fitted temporarily or as a permanent feature.”
