Waeco Dometic unveils new AC service unit

Air conditioning specialist Dometic has launched its Waeco ASC6400 AC servicing units for truck and bus, which it describes as the new benchmark for service on large-volume systems.

“Formerly, most commercial vehicles used to be fitted with R134a AC systems,” said Dometic.

“Many manufacturers of trucks, buses and agricultural machinery are now moving across to the new, environmentally-friendly R1234yf refrigerant. The widespread use of R1234yf refrigerant brings new challenges and business opportunities to service and repair workshops in the commercial vehicle sector.

“This is because R1234yf has other chemical properties than R134a and therefore requires an entirely new type of service equipment.”

The new ASC6400 series covers the full commercial vehicle market and all refrigerant types currently used – R134a, R1234yf and R513. The new generation service units can simply be customised on setup for the respective type of refrigerant, says the company; and workshops will have the choice different hose sizes, from three metres up to eight metres long.

Designed for the large-volume AC systems of trucks, buses and agricultural machinery, the ASC6400 application comes with a large internal vessel holding 25kg of refrigerant.

“Another unique feature is the patented eight bearing loading scale, which requires no calibration and is absolutely reliable, even over the most difficult workshop floors. Rated at a cool 100 kg, it is one of the largest scales in automotive industry,” said the firm.

“Dometic’s workshop customers will also appreciate the integrated vehicle database, which contains specific charging amounts for trucks and agricultural vehicles and supports the operator during the process.”

In addition to the standard configuration, the new Waeco ASC6400 series also provides a low-emission option, said to achieve a refrigerant recovery rate of close to 100 percent. Using a new, four-step process, the system also recovers the refrigerant from the waste oil container and the vacuum pump, which would usually be lost.

As a result, more resources are recycled and less gas can escape into the atmosphere. Moreover, says Dometic, the Waeco Low Emission concept produces significant cost savings on whatever type of refrigerant is being used.

Optionally, the Waeco ASC service units can be upgraded with a Wi-Fi Kit, which can be used to send tasks to the service unit from a tablet computer or smartphone, or receive service data for convenient documentation.

The 1234yf refrigerant is also available through Waeco UK, in 5kg or 10kg bottles.
