Historic hours offences to be in scope of FPN scheme

dvsa_newDrivers who commit hours offences may be subject to fixed penalty notices if the offences are detected up to 28 days afterwards, under changes planned for October of this year.

Last year the Department for Transport (DfT) consulted over bringing such offences committed in the last 28 days into the scope of the fixed penalty notices and (for drivers without UK addresses) the Financial Penalty Deposit Scheme.

It received 18 responses from industry bodies, police and enforcement authorities, companies and drivers. Most were in favour of the change.

A spokesman for DfT said: “The Department will continue to work closely with industry stakeholders on the details of the legislative changes needed and address the concerns raised during the consultation process.”
