Extending tyre life with Magnum+
Tyre and wheel solutions provider Martins Industries has outlined the benefits of its Magnum+ High Precision Balancing Beads, which it says represent an easy and cost-effective means of balancing tyres for the duration of their life.
“With Magnum+ High Precision Balancing Beads, you can simplify your process, speed up your daily routine and turn a time-consuming repetitive task into a genuine profit centre,” said the company.
“If you like to play in the mud, drive in the snow or go from one messy job site to another, heavy spots on your tyre may change leaving your wheels unbalanced. With Magnum+ the beads simply reposition themselves according to the new force created by the heavy spot.”
The firm continued: “High precision balancing means a proper, consistent balance every time. A balanced tyre means less vibration resulting in a reduction in rolling resistance, and in turn, better fuel efficiency.

An imbalanced tyre creates an outward force from the tread that causes vibration in the tyre, says Martins.
“Utilising Newton’s law that every force creates an equal and opposite reaction, Magnum+ beads roll freely within the tyre and reposition themselves as the wheel assembly turns, neutralising any imbalance and eliminating vibration through centrifugal force.
“Once they have found their position, they stay there until the vehicle stops. Once the vehicle stops, Magnum+ beads fall to the bottom of the tyre, ready to pick up where they left off the next time the vehicle moves.”
Explaining the rationale for the beads, the company continued: “The industry standard for balancing tyres is the addition of external weights to the vehicle wheels. We aim to change that because this method has flaws. The weights only balance tyres based on their condition at a fixed point in time. As they wear, their balancing requirements change meaning the original fixed weights no longer provide a proper balance.
