Philips puts performance in the spotlight

Lumileds – the name behind the Philips Automotive Lighting products – develops a wide range of lighting solutions for commercial vehicle applications.

The company says its Philips heavy duty lamps seek to offer the ultimate in halogen and LED lights for trucks, for all requirements – from headlights, through interior lights to exterior positional lighting.

“OE quality comes as standard with all the Philips ranges and they will deliver performance, durability and extended lifespan in order to help truck and fleet owners and operators, whether large or small, as well as transportation departments and garage professionals,” said Lumileds.

“The Philips Halogen 24V Commercial Vehicle headlight bulb range sports three options, each with its own unique performance or style criteria – enabling operators to choose the right product according to their particular needs or preferences.”

Philips MasterLife headlight bulbs are said to provide the ultimate original equipment quality truck lighting solution, with maximum performance and minimum downtime.

“MasterLife offers up to 1,200 hours, continuing to give it more lifetime than any other 24V lamp on the market,” said the company.

“This is possible through the use of a robust double coil filament, a unique gas combination and quartz glass.

“MasterDuty bulbs were upgraded in the recent past to offer further enhanced vibration resistance. This makes these lights suitable for trucks whose work requires ultimate protection against mechanical shock.

“MasterDuty is the right choice for drivers and operators who are looking for toughness that lasts, as they are designed with ultimate protection against mechanical shock in mind – as well as a robust double coil filament that is manufactured to remain stable yet withstand severe vibration.”

MasterLife and MasterDuty both come in H1, H3, H4 and H7 configurations.

With owner-operators, individuality is often a factor in deciding purchases for a vehicle, contends Lumileds.

“If style is important – together with performance – MasterDuty BlueVision produces a blue Xenon-like effect,” said the company.

“Philips MasterDuty BlueVision combines the durability and vibration resistance of MasterDuty with an additional blue Xenon effect for maximum style. They offer operators a distinctive look, bringing an option of style combined with practicality, and can resist twice the vibration of an average lamp.”

Philips MasterDuty BlueVision are available in H3, H4 and H7 variants.

Now available in the UK and Ireland is a fresh generation of road-legal lightbars and spotlights for trucks.

“The Philips Ultinon Drive ranges combine the brightness and clarity of light from LEDs with rugged design,” said Lumileds.

“Ultinon Drive Performance comes in the 5100 and 7000 options. These complement the Ultinon Drive 5000 range that has been available for a couple of years, which is now the mid-range lightbar offering, as Lumileds have now introduced the entry-level Ultinon Drive Value range.

“All Philips lightbars provide superior visibility of around 400 metres (or upwards) and give drivers a clearer view of the way ahead and more time to plan or react to changing conditions.

“The high-lumen LEDs produce a combined spot and floodlight that shines far and wide, illuminating potential hazards on the roadside as well as in front of the vehicle, while the cool 6500 Kelvin colour temperature enhances driver focus without inducing eye-strain.”

They are all sturdily built and designed for optimised heat management, says the company, as well as consistently high light output.

“IK07 impact resistance ensures trouble-free performance on uneven surfaces and the unbreakable polycarbonate lenses will withstand bangs and scratches.

“Lightbars range from 4” across to a huge 30”, as well as LED spotlights in both the Performance and Value ranges.

“They all feature dust and water resistance to IP68 and IP69K standards, while robust connectors keep the power flowing and the lightbars’ stainless-steel mounting brackets are corrosion-free and capable of handling snow, ice and even salt and thus offer years of reliable service.”

All of Philips’ 24V lamps are of original equipment quality, says the firm, and are the choice of many vehicle manufacturers worldwide.

“The Philips 24V bulb range also includes a comprehensive range of fog lights, positioning lights, indicators, stop and running lights as well as a wide range of interior lights and dashboard lighting.

“Philips 24V signalling and interior lamps offer a wide range of lighting solutions in both standard or LED formats for your truck, bus or heavy-duty vehicle.”

The company also emphasised the importance of ensuring truck, bus and heavy-duty vehicle drivers are ready to change lamps while on the road. To this end, Philips has designed Two MasterDuty spare bulb kits to meet operators’ needs.

“It is all about reducing downtime to a minimum,” said Lumileds’ UK and Ireland automotive business development manager, Richard Armstrong.

“We are now able not only to offer bulbs that are at the forefront of lighting lifetimes, but also those which offer a great all round blend of performance, style and durability.”

There is also a Philips Headlamp Restoration kit, specially designed for truck lighting.

The process only takes about half an hour and it cleans both headlights to a professional looking finish, says Lumileds, removing haze and yellowing caused by the effects of the sun and of exposure to dirt, and offering two years of UV protection.

Lumileds also highlights the performance benefits of its Philips ranges for light commercial vehicles.

“The Philips RacingVision halogen – once again Auto Express’ Headlamp of the Year in 2023 – was the first halogen headlight to be officially rated at +200 per cent of the industry standard bulb – and still sets the bar for performance and, therefore, safety,” is said.

“The popular X-tremeVision Pro150 offers +150 performance rating, as well as a life time of up to 450 hours and 10G shock protection, making it an excellent blend of performance and durability.”

Richard Armstrong added: “Light is fundamental to driving, so our products promote active safety protection – preventing accidents by increasing overall visibility and road illumination.

“This allows drivers to be seen sooner and to see further down the road, so they can avoid potential hazards. Philips lighting solutions, when combined with passive vehicle safety features, help enhance overall driver confidence and promote a safer driving experience.”
