Castrol adds new engine oil to Vecton CV range
Lubricant supplier Castrol has launched a new engine oil product in its Vecton range for commercial vehicles, which it says offers significant performance benefits.
The company cites data obtained from its internal research looking at medium and heavy-duty trucks over 3.5 tons.
“Europe’s commercial vehicle market – encompassing heavy goods vehicle and agricultural vehicles – uses almost 750 million litres of engine oil per year,” said the company.
“Looking at the medium and heavy-duty truck market (those over 3.5MT) in isolation, 590 million litres of engine oil is needed per year, and 195 million litres are produced for transmission and axle fluids and other ancillaries such as greases and coolants.”
Based on internal research carried out by bp Energy Outlook, by 2035 Castrol expects over 90 per cent of trucks will still be powered by internal combustion engines and will therefore require engine oils. For heavy-duty trucks over 7.5 tons, the total EU market for lubricants is estimated to be 354 million litres.
“As part of this commitment to the sector, Castrol has launched a new product under its Vecton commercial vehicle lubricant range that meets the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers’ (ACEA) 2022 specifications for Heavy-Duty (HD) engines,” said the company.
“Castrol Vecton Long Drain 5W-30 E6/E9 is a fully synthetic engine oil formulated to lubricate and protect heavy duty vehicles for longer, while meeting all regulatory and performance requirements across Europe.”
The new product replaces Vecton Fuel Saver 5W-30 E6/E9 in Castrol’s line-up, says the company, signifying the long-term support for lubricants in the commercial vehicle market, and offers an upgraded specification profile including the new ACEA HD specifications E8 and E11.
“These new specifications are aimed at addressing increasing hardware complexity and the growing adoption of alternative fuels.
“Castrol Vecton Long Drain 5W-30 E6/E9 also represents significant advances in lubricant performance levels, offering increased protection against oxidation and deposits. The new product also incorporates the latest American Petroleum Institute (API) tests, leading to greater global synergies across API and ACEA.
“As one of the world’s leading lubricant suppliers, Castrol closely monitors automotive industry trends and OEM technical developments to meet the latest industry specifications and OEM requirements.
“During the new product’s development, Castrol carried out two new tests to ensure the lubricant offers optimal performance in both aeration and oxidation control.”
Castrol Vecton Long Drain 5W-30 E6/E9 has now been globally approved for a greater number of OEM specifications over its predecessor, adds the company, including MAN M 3775 / 3677, Volvo VDS-4.5 and Deutz DQC IV-18 LA specifications.
“With the launch of the new product, Castrol signals its strategy of adapting to macro-trends that will shape the future: urbanisation, digitalisation, an increasing reliance and dependence on advanced technologies, as well as addressing the impact on climate change and dwindling natural resources,” it said.
“EU countries have set ambitious climate targets to sell only zero-emission new cars from 2035. This dictates the pace of change. Castrol is focusing on these challenges in order to seize the opportunities they present.”
