Europump fits Jigsaw fuel management for Tarmac
Tarmac is rolling out Jigsaw fuel management systems at each of its depots across the UK.
On behalf of JigsawM2M, Europump Maintenance has already installed 58 Eclipse 2 or Nova units onto Tarmac’s static tanks, and is about to begin the next batch of installs on mobile bowsers.
Gary Davies, projects and operations manager at JigsawM2M, said: “A variety of sites needed fuel management systems fitting to both static tanks and bowsers, with many variations and specific site requirements.
“While JigsawM2M supplied the core product, Europump co-ordinated the site surveys and performed the installations.
“Communication has been a key aspect of this project and our relationship with Europump has been invaluable. Great knowledge of the product, understanding of the end user requirements together with the down-to-earth yet always professional way of working has made the whole journey a timely success.
“With easy communication and always there to answer questions, revisit site details, and co-ordinate many changes, Europump has been very helpful and accommodating. It’s definitely a successful partnership that has never been questioned by the end-user, Tarmac.”
Addressing the concerns of the fuelling sector more generally, Europump says that end of red diesel has sparked a growing concern about the security of fuel stored in commercial fleet depots, with white diesel a much more attractive product to thieves than gas oil.
“Many depots have no way of monitoring fuel stock levels but investment in an automatic tank gauge combined with a fuel management system will give operators all the peace of mind they need,” said the company.
“Europump recommends installing an automatic tank gauge as a minimum so that should fuel levels suddenly drop, an alarm will be triggered to alert depot staff. Recommended systems to accurately measure stock levels include the Gilbarco Veeder-Root TLS, Omntec Proteus Series, Jigsaw and the OLE range.
“A fuel management system takes fuel monitoring to the next level, giving transport managers full visibility and control over the fuel dispensed from their depots.
“Europump Maintenance is the UK’s preferred supplier and service provider of the Jigsaw range of web-based fuel management systems, including Eclipse, Nova, Teletag and Tank Guard. Manufactured in Lancashire, Jigsaw fuel management systems are used globally in the bus, rail, aggregate, marina, aviation and logistics industries.”
The Eclipse system is Jigsaw’s fuel management system for depots with two to four pumps, while Nova is suitable for depots with a single fuel pump.
Said Europump: “The systems are real-time and web-based using reliable mobile data technology to connect to the internet, requiring nothing more than a web browser to access your fleet fuelling data, which is stored and available live on the central fuel management servers.
“An SD card installed into the system’s board acts as a backup if for any reason the 4G sim card or servers were down.
“The system has links to collect data from most electronic tank gauges, allowing for accurate wet-stock data reconciliation, and hardware can be retrofitted to existing units and either mounted onto the pump or placed on a standalone plinth.
“For the best user experience, it’s recommended that sites have a tank gauge as well for more accurate readings on the web portal. While a gauge isn’t essential, without one users won’t be able to see what is happening if they have fuel missing.
“With a gauge installed they can be alarmed as soon as fuel is being stolen and take action.
“Also, web reports use Book Stock reconciliation software and rely on data being manually inputted unless you have a gauge, which uploads the data automatically.
Fuel pumps can be authorised for use with the aid of tags, or fobs. Colour coded tags can be assigned to managers (white); the fueller (yellow), which verifies both the person and the vehicle; just the vehicle (blue); or just the driver (red).”
The company added: “Jigsaw also offers Teletag readers, which are tags attached to the vehicle so that when they drive within five metres of the reader it allows automatic access to the pump, and Easyfuel access is a tag attached to the vehicle filling point and the other half is attached to the nozzle. When they come close together they activate the pump for use.”
