Certas Energy helps fleets cut carbon with HVO Hub
Certas Energy reports that it has helped hundreds of businesses meet their emissions objectives thanks to its HVO On The Road Hub, accessible via its website.
The hub champions hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as an accessible, renewable and ethically sourced diesel alternative.
Designed to simply ‘drop in’ to a diesel engine – either as a mix or on its own – it is a seamless solution to helping businesses reduce their carbon emissions using their existing fleet and without the need for engine modifications, Certas Energy contends.
The hub’s Carbon Savings Calculator enables businesses to calculate exactly how much HVO they need to use to reach their emissions objectives, based on their vehicle or fleet’s annual diesel usage and latest UK government figures – while the firm’s HVO fleet balancing calculator allows fleet operators to calculate the cost of mixing HVO with traditional diesel to aid decarbonisation.
Since the hub’s inception in June 2024, it has been used more than 400 times, the company says, helping hundreds of businesses make an informed decision about their fuel usage.
Tim Shepherd, head of fuel cards at Certas Energy (pictured, right) said: “Our hub has been specifically designed to make it as easy as possible to educate businesses about how they can reduce their emissions, as well as providing them with real time, bespoke information on how much it will.
“Fleet managers have so many other considerations, the HVO Hub provides them with a flexible solution all in one place.”
HVO is a lower carbon alternative diesel which is said to offer immediate greenhouse gas emissions savings of up to 90 per cent compared to diesel across the product life cycle.
“It also burns cleaner, emitting fewer particulates compared to conventional diesel,” said Certas Eenrgy.
“In addition, storage is simpler because HVO has a shelf life of up to 10 years, and is biodegradable and non-toxic. It is also renewable and practically fossil-free fuel which can be used in traditional diesel engines with no modifications.”
In addition to the calculators, the hub also includes links to Certas Energy’s podcast HVO On The Road, which features interviews about HVO with industry experts.
