Vehicles equipped with Lightfoot devices travelled a record one billion miles in 2024, the company has reported – the first time this milestone has been hit in a calendar year – in the context of dramatic growth and demand for its safety and decarbonisation technology.

The exact figure of 1,063,911,619 miles – a 15 per cent increase on 2023 (924,650,184 miles) – is the equivalent of 42,727 trips around the world, with the driver coaching technology saving 42,360 tonnes of carbon as a result (2023: 36,488 tonnes).

“Hitting the billion-mile mark in 2024 is a major milestone for Lightfoot and its customers,” said Lightfoot CEO Paul Hollick.

“It demonstrates the technology is now an integral part of at-work driving for a vast number of businesses, and such growth and high mileages deliver proven results in terms of reducing fuel use, increasing electric range, and minimising accidents.”

Many high-profile businesses use Lightfoot to improve efficiency and reduce the risk to their drivers and vehicles, says the company, including Tesco, Asda, Iceland, Octopus Energy, Currys and Virgin Media.

“When you think about the sheer scale of what Lightfoot is now achieving, it is remarkable,” Hollick continued.

“We’re also proven to help reduce typical vehicle wear and tear by up to 45per cent and reduce downtime. When your customers are driving such high mileages, Lightfoot technology can have a massive impact on costs, downtime, and emissions.”

Lightfoot reports that it took on more fleet customers across every industry sector – from retail and food to estate management, utilities, and construction – last year, which also saw the promotion of Paul Hollick to CEO, as well as European and global expansion.

“As we continue to grow, it becomes a virtuous circle in which we provide ever greater results,” said Hollick.

“With one billion miles now hit, we are very excited to see what remarkable things can be achieved between ourselves and our partners in the next billion.”
