Yokohama sparks interest with CV tyre range
Tyre provider Yokohama says its range for commercial vehicle applications is already generating significant levels of interest from fleet operators across the UK, despite being launched here only 12 months ago.
Results of some large-scale trials are expected soon, but the company says initial indications show its tyres are outperforming the performance and longevity of premium-segment benchmarked competitors.
“We’re incredibly pleased with how our tyres are performing in a series of fleet evaluation trials,” said Mat Wilkinson, sales director, Yokohama UK.
“We know that tyre longevity is one of the most important considerations for fleet operators, and the initial feedback is that our tyres are pushing other best performers in the premium tyre segment.
“On its own, this is great news, but when operators also look at the lower price point for the tyres in our range, we are sure it becomes a very compelling and exciting offering.”
Yokohama’s range of tyres for bus, coach and other commercial vehicles are ideally suited for regional applications, says the firm, and include tyres for all axles.
The Yokohama 124R pattern for steer axles, which includes a 22.5” size for regional applications, (or 124RA all position pattern in 17.5” and 19.5”), has tread features to improve life and traction, including grooves and sipes specifically designed to reduce premature shoulder step down and uneven wear, stone ejectors and rigid shoulder ribs to aid straight line stability.
Meanwhile, featuring a variety of design elements to aid mileage and traction, the 704R drive axle tyre has extra wide directional tread, high rigidity blocks and a newly developed compound. All this contributes to even wear, long tread life and strong traction, says Yokohama, particularly in wet and cold conditions.
Not to be outdone, Yokohama’s RY357 trailer tyre with 5-rib tread design is developed for even wear and wet traction with resistance to shoulder wear. Additionally, the casing is specially designed to be well-suited for retreading.
While Yokohama’s tyres are said to excel in national/regional operations, the range also features products which stand out in on/off road applications, coach and city bus fleets, plus long haul operations, the firm says.
